Apparently this website about Japanese TV is popular... I would love to see the conventions this season... I wonder if people would be able to recognize the back of my head?
And now AKA-san's spill about the "OTAKU" world:
For the record this TV crew was the least annoying of the two that followed around Japan. But I still had to pull both of them to the side for a stern warning not to hound my customers all day... Also, I wasn't in favor of the kinda of "Densha Otoko" dorky person they were trying to portray outta us... (Which show, I hated from the beginning. I really tried to sit through one episode, but felt it was pushing back anime fan relations the same way some would say Kanye West "Bush comment" pushed back African American relations... I am not going back to the anime = sex and violence Japanimation age!)
TV producer: Aka-san can you have them sing Japanese Anime songs?
Aka-san: Yeaaaah, see no... one they don't all come to Japan to see Anime theme songs all day. Two even if they wanted to they don't all know Japanese. Sorry SUCKA!
You should've of seen the look this dudes faces, like I broke the 4 law of Japanese Otaku-ism... Which by the way, I have never and will never label my tours as OTAKU. I run "Pop Japan" tours, not "Otaku/Geek/Outcast" tours. (What the new PJT will do I can only dread... full blown yaoi tours prolly...) And of course, I know the term "Otaku" is a positive thing in the states, but believe me it's not a word you want to label yourself in Japan as a professional company/person or really in the states for that matter. You'd be surprised at what some the industry or store managers really think behind the wall.
Think of it this way, if I ever wanted to work with Marvel or Sony for Spiderman, the last thing I do or mention would be my venom tattoo unless I knew I had the job afterwards. (When I was working)The main reason we didn't hire upfront fans of anime, is that every time we did they couldn't separate what they liked from what was needed to be done in the job... i.e. It's like me working for Sony and bitching at Sam Raimi about every non fan liked Venom change...
Isaac: I can't promote it because it's not a "fan" Venom... Yeah, well Isaac the "fan" Venom was fan for a reason... general audiences will not get it and be turned off.
After that segment went on TV, my Japanese phone blew up with dissapprovement/curious questions from Japanese if I was Otaku... or that I'm "very very otaku person". It wasn't a pleasant feeling, but after much explaining most of them got the picture of the differences between America anime, Japan, and super extremists fans...
Ok rant over... thanks for your time... I hope this will shed some light into anyone trying to do anything anywhere...
It's like Dave Chappelle said "Disney Dollars? Pfft! Can't buy p*ssy and weed with that!"
So I'm being real, because I have never gotten hired, laided or paided based on being a fan of anime or comics... I gotten it because I had other skills/charisma/goals that was more than the average dude... and I believe u do too. *Pointing at you*
Hope this helps!

Although, there were some people who ate it up for some reason.
Heck, aside from being totally camera shy, still found it rather hard dodging those guys. Felt like the papparazzi or something for the National Inquirer. /sigh
While it was neat being on TV, didn't care at all for the way it was done.
I got put through hell by NHK. NHK, for god's sake!
